Maintaining Control of the Dashboard – Building the Dashboard
Now that you have created a new organization and claimed devices and licenses to it, it’s imperative to take a moment to reflect on some best practices for maintaining access to and control of your Meraki platform:
• Keep at least two non-SAML organization administrator accounts with full access.
• Have at least one administrator account use an email domain under your control.
• Require multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all administrator accounts.
• Maintain full organization permissions for owners of Meraki hardware and licenses.
• Revoke or resign privileges when there is an administrative change.
Maintaining access and control of the Meraki Dashboard is extremely important. Meraki Support cannot create, remove, or modify any administrator privileges in a customer organization for any reason. If you as an administrator lose access to your Dashboard account, recovery options are available. However, if you are unable to recover access to your account and are unable to utilize another account with full organization-level access, you run the risk of losing access to control your platform entirely. Because of this, it’s imperative that you take appropriate measures to maintain access to each organization and appropriately delegate permissions to other administrator accounts.
Pro Tip
Read-only administrator accounts can be useful when using the Meraki Dashboard API for gathering data to prevent accidental changes. By having separate API-enabled accounts with different permission levels, you can reduce the risk of automation-related accidents.
